Frequently Asked Questions

How does progression work?

After each workout, AddFive analyzes your performance and suggests progression changes for each exercise. You review and confirm these suggestions in the Progression Confirmation screen before they are applied. You can also manually adjust any suggested value before accepting it.

How does auto-deload work?

After 2 consecutive failed sessions (configurable per exercise), AddFive suggests a 10% weight reduction (also configurable). The deload is proposed in the Progression Confirmation screen — you can accept, adjust, or skip it. Once applied, the failure counter resets. Deload is available for Linear, Percentage, and Double Progression algorithms.

Can I create my own exercises?

Yes. From the Programs tab, tap "+" and choose "Create Exercise." You can pick from 6 exercise types (Barbell, Machine, Calisthenics, Running, HIIT, Basic), configure muscle groups, set default values, and choose a progression algorithm. Custom exercises can be reused across all your workouts.

What progression algorithms are available?

AddFive supports 7 algorithms: Linear (add fixed weight), Percentage (increase by %), Double Progression (increase reps then weight), Variant Sequence (progress through calisthenics variants), Pace Trend (target faster running pace), Round Increase (add HIIT rounds), and None (manual only).

Does the app work offline?

Yes. All data is stored locally on your device — no account or internet connection required. GPS running needs a signal for live tracking, but everything else works fully offline.

How does Apple Health integration work?

When you complete your first workout, AddFive requests permission to write to Apple Health. If granted, each completed workout is automatically saved. If you deny permission, the app continues to work normally — all data is still saved locally.

Can I switch between kg and lbs?

Yes. Go to Settings and change your unit system. You can also configure your available plates (how many of each size you own) for accurate plate calculator suggestions.

How does the plate calculator work?

For barbell exercises, AddFive shows exactly which plates to load on each side based on your working weight and the plates you have configured in Settings. It also generates warmup ramp-up sets leading to your working weight.

Which 1RM formula does the app use?

Epley by default, but you can change it in Settings. The estimated 1RM is displayed in your exercise history and used for PR detection.
